Laser Vision Correction
Dr Ioannides is Fellowship-trained in laser vision correction (refractive surgery). He has performed thousands of femtosecond LASIK as well as PRK procedures in Cyprus. He provides his expertise to short- or long-sighted individuals who want to eliminate dependency on glasses or contact lenses.
During your preoperative consultation Dr Ioannides will review your individual needs and conduct a detailed examination of your eyes. This will determine your eligibility for laser vision correction as well as help dictate the ideal procedure for you.
Instructions for the day of surgery
Wear comfortable clothes.
Avoid wearing perfume, make-up, gel or hairspray.
Eat as light a meal
Have a person with you because you are not allowed to drive.
Bring sunglasses
Before the operation (if you wish), you can take a mild sedative pill, which simply relaxes you, without affecting your attention or concentration.
Before entering the Laser room, you will be given appropriate clothing (apron, cap and booties).

Which laser platform do you use?
The Alcon WaveLight Refractive Suite. This features the FS200 femtosecond laser and the EX500 excimer laser. It allows for individualised, customised eye laser treatments.
How long does the procedure take?
The laser vision correction procedure typically takes about 5 minutes per eye.
Is the procedure painful?
The procedure is not painful. Numbing eye drops are used to prevent discomfort during the procedure, although some patients may feel pressure or mild discomfort.
What is the recovery time?
Most people experience significantly improved vision within 4 hours, but complete healing can take longer. Patients are often able to return to normal activities within a few days.
Are there any risks or side effects?
Common side effects include dry eyes, glare, halos, or starbursts around lights, but these usually resolve over time. Serious complications are rare but can include infection or vision reduction.
How long do the results last?
Results are generally long-lasting. Less than 1% of people may need an enhancement or additional correction due to changes in vision.
